  • Take the installation environment into consideration. Onshore, offshore, and buried piping encounter different external exposure conditions. Offshore and marine environments nearly always require stainless steel due to continuous contact with saltwater.
  • Balance your budget against long-term operational costs. Carbon steel carries a lower upfront cost. However, any savings can quickly vanish if corrosion leads to premature replacement. Do not cut corners on material selection merely for short-term cost savings.
  • Maintenance accessibility should also be considered. Flanges installed in hard-to-access locations are not ideal for materials that require frequent inspection or recoating.
